Welcome to the OE Club website

Ian Johnston, President in 2010-11 has said to me on several occasions that if I have half as much fun as he has had as President I will have a fantastic time.  So far he has been absolutely on the money!

I have attended the London Dinner as President Elect in March at the Bel Canto Restaurant which specialises in Opera while you eat!  Although we did not have enough people to ensure that we had the room to ourselves as intended, it was a fantastic night and everyone had a great time.  My thanks to Nick and Cathy Pettingale for putting up with myself, Kev Dyas and Ross Jobber!

I officially took over as President at the Executive meeting in May and was deeply touched by the kind words and minutes silence in respect of my Father who had recently passed away.  This meant an awful lot to my Family and I and typify’s all that is good about the Old Ellesmerians and indeed the school.

The Liverpool Dinner was held at Heswall Golf Club and organised by Barry Keenan.  Forty-one people sat down to Dinner and enjoyed a great night with speeches kept short which I know is always appreciated!

I was also lucky enough to be invited to the leaver’s event on the last day of term which was a great opportunity to promote the club to those who were leaving and present them with a complimentary OE tie or scarf.  It was also a pleasure to ask some long standing members of the College Staff to become Honorary OEs.

There are plenty of events throughout the year and it would be fantastic to see as many people as possible attending.  These are both formal and informal gatherings that are publicised in the Diary section of this, the OE website along with e-communications.  Additionally, events are also “advertised” through the OE Facebook page.

Having contacted and been contacted by my contemporaries via Facebook many of them say that they want to meet.  This does not have to be at a formal dinner – meet up for a drink and publicise it via the Facebook pages.  You may only get a few people who attend but I have had great fun meeting people I have not seen since I left school and I hope that they have too!

One “informal” event that I have been asked to look into is an OE trip to Le Mans for the 24 hour race.  If you are interested please let me know.

I look forward to my year as President and hope that I can get to meet as many OE’s as possible at the various events.  I would really appreciate your support at these and would ask that people use social media or indeed something as old fashioned as a phone to get a group of people together to attend any of the events.
